regain [rI'geIn], liberty ['lIbqtI], Britain [brItn]
I was not so unhappy about the plan as my little nurse seemed to be, as I hadn't given up the idea of regaining my liberty. And as to the shame of it, there was nothing I could do about that. The same thing could have happened to the King of Great Britain himself if he had been so unfortunate as to be left on his own in this country.
On market-day (в базарный день), I was put into a closed box for the journey to the town (меня поместили в закрытом ящике для поездки в город). A small door had been made in the box (в ящике была проделана небольшая дверца) and there were holes to let in air (также были отверстия для воздуха: «чтобы впускать воздух»). My little nurse was allowed to come with us (моей нянюшке разрешили поехать с нами). She had put the bed clothes from the doll's bed into the box (она положила в ящик постельное белье с кукольной кроватки) so that I could lie down (чтобы я мог лечь).
closed [klqVzd], journey ['GWnI], air [Fq]
On market-day, I was put into a closed box for the journey to the town. A small door had been made in the box and there were holes to let in air. My little nurse was allowed to come with us. She had put the bed clothes from the doll's bed into the box so that I could lie down.
The journey took about a half an hour (поездка заняла = продолжалась около получаса) and it was the most uncomfortable journey (и это было наименее приятная: «самая неудобная» поездка) I've ever made (из всех, которые я совершал; I've = I have; ever — когда-либо). The horse rose high into the air (лошадь подбрасывало: «поднималась» высоко вверх: «в воздух») as it trotted along (при каждом ее шаге рысью: «в то время как она шла/бежала рысью»). It felt like the rising and falling of a ship (это напоминало: «ощущалось как» подъем и падение/опускание корабля = движения корабля вверх и вниз) during a great storm at sea (во время сильной бури на море), except that it happened much more quickly (с той разницей, что это = все происходило намного быстрее = с большей скоростью; except — исключая, кроме, за исключением). I was very badly shaken (меня всего растрясло; badly — скверно, плохо; крайне, очень сильно; to shake — трясти; встряхивать) when we reached the town (когда = пока мы добрались до города).
We arrived at an inn (мы подъехали к гостинице) called the Green Eagle (называемой = под названием "Зеленый орел"). The farmer spoke to the inn-keeper (фермер поговорил с содержателем гостиницы) and then paid a town crier (а потом нанял городского глашатая; to pay — платить; нанимать за деньги /для совершения какого-л. действия/) to walk through the town telling of the wonderful sight (пройти = чтобы тот прошел по городу, извещая об удивительном зрелище) which could be seen at the Green Eagle (какое можно увидеть в "Зеленом орле").
uncomfortable [An'kAmf(q)tqbl], eagle [Jgl], sight [saIt]

I was placed on a table in the largest room in the inn (меня поставили на стол в самой большой комнате гостиницы). My little nurse stood on a low stool close to the table (моя нянюшка стояла на низком табурете возле самого стола). She was to take care of me (она должна была оберегать меня; care — забота, попечение; to take care of smb. — беречь, заботиться; смотреть за кем-л.) and tell me what to do (и говорить/указывать мне, что я должен делать). Thirty people at a time were allowed in to see me (одновременно: «за раз» смотреть меня разрешалось тридцати человекам). I walked about on the table (я ходил взад и вперед по столу; about — кругом; в разных направлениях по какой-л. ограниченной территории) and did everything I was asked to do (и делал все, о чем меня просили). I told the people they were welcome (я говорил людям, что рад их видеть; welcome — желанный; долгожданный, приятный) and made other little speeches (и произносил /еще/ другие фразы; speech — речь; реплика) that Glumdalclitch had taught me (которым меня научила Глюмдалклич). I drank their health (выпивал за их здоровье) using a thimble she had given me (пользуясь наперстком, который она мне дала). I drew my sword (вынимал свою саблю) and did some tricks with it (и проделывал ею разные сложные упражнения; trick — трюк, фокус; сноровка, ловкий прием). I was shown to twelve different groups of people that day (в тот день меня показали двенадцати разным группам людей = зрители менялись двенадцать раз). Those who had seen me soon told others (те, кто меня /уже/ видел, скоро рассказывали другим). After a few hours (через несколько часов), people were ready to break the doors down (люди были готовы выломать двери) to see Grildrig (чтобы увидеть Грилдрига). I was on the table for eight hours (я находился на столе восемь часов /подряд/) doing the same tricks time after time (раз за разом проделывая те же штуки).
allow [q'laV], taught [tLt], health [helT]

The farmer was very pleased at the end of the day (в конце дня фермер был очень доволен) and arranged (и договорился; to arrange — приводить в порядок; располагать в определенном порядке; устраивать, организовывать; договариваться, уславливаться) to show me again on the next market-day (/что будет/ снова показывать меня в следующий/ближайший базарный день). I was so tired (я так устал) that I could hardly stand or speak (что едва мог стоять или = и говорить). After returning to the farm it took me three days (мне понадобилось /целых/ три дня после возвращения на ферму) to recover my strength (чтобы восстановить свои силы; to recover — вновь обретать; возвращать, получать обратно). This was partly (да и то не полностью: «это было /лишь/ отчасти»; part — часть) because I was given very little rest (потому что мне давали очень мало покоя/отдыха).
More and more people began to turn up at the farmer's house (в доме фермера стало появляться все больше: «больше и больше» народу; to turn up — подворачивать/ся/; /внезапно/ появляться, приходить, приезжать), asking to see me (желающих: «просящих» посмотреть меня). There was room for thirty people in the largest room (в самой большой комнате могло поместиться тридцать человек: «было /достаточно/ места для…»; room — место, пространство; комната) and the farmer asked for the amount of money (и фермер запрашивал/требовал плату: «количество/сумму денег») that thirty people would pay (как за: «которую заплатили бы» тридцать человек), even when the show was put on for a single family (даже если представление устраивалось /всего/ для одной семьи; single — один; единственный).
arrange [q'reInG], tired ['taIqd], recover [rI'kAvq]
The farmer was very pleased at the end of the day and arranged to show me again on the next market-day. I was so tired that I could hardly stand or speak. After returning to the farm it took me three days to recover my strength. This was partly because I was given very little rest.
More and more people began to turn up at the farmer's house, asking to see me. There was room for thirty people in the largest room and the farmer asked for the amount of money that thirty people would pay, even when the show was put on for a single family.
Soon I had to do my tricks many times a day (скоро мне проходилось проделывать свои трюки по много раз на дню) every day of the week, except Wednesdays (каждый день, кроме среды; week — неделя). Wednesday is the Sabbath in Brobdingnag (среда — священный день отдохновения в Бробдингнаге). We continued to ride into town on market-days (в базарные дни мы продолжали ездить в город). When I had been with the family for about two months (когда я пробыл в семье около двух месяцев), I was told that the farmer was planning to take me (мне сказали, что фермер собирается отвезти меня) to the biggest city in the land (в самый большой город в стране), Lorbrulgrud.
Wednesday ['wenzd(e)I], Sabbath ['sxbqT], continue [kqn'tInjH]

When I had been with the family for about two months, I was told that the farmer was planning to take me to the biggest city in the land, Lorbrulgrud.
We set out on this journey of three thousand miles on August 17th, 1703 (мы отправились в это путешествие /длиною/ в три тысячи миль 17 августа 1703 года). The farmer rode his horse (фермер ехал верхом на лошади) and Glumdalclitch rode behind him (а Глюмдалклич ехала = сидела позади него). She carried me in a box (она носила = держала меня в ящике) tied to her waist (привязанном к ее талии), and she had done everything she could (и сделала все, что могла) to make me as comfortable as possible (чтобы устроить меня как можно удобнее: «так удобно, как /только/ возможно»). I even had my bed and spare clothes with me in the box (со мной в ящике была даже моя кровать/постель и одежда на смену; spare — запасной; лишний, дополнительный). A young farm worker rode behind us with our luggage (один молодой работник ехал за нами с багажом).
possible ['pOsqb(q)l], spare [spFq], luggage ['lAgIG]

A young farm worker rode behind us with our luggage.
The journey took us ten weeks (поездка заняла десять недель). We stopped at eighteen large towns and many villages on the way (по пути мы останавливались в восемнадцати больших городах и множестве деревень). In fact the farmer stopped to hold shows any time (в сущности, фермер останавливался устраивать представления всякий раз) that he saw the chance of making money (когда видел возможность = рассчитывал заработать: «сделать» деньги; chance — случайность; /удобный/ случай; шанс, возможность, вероятность). I even performed my tricks in private homes (я даже показывал свои трюки в частных домах), if the people were rich enough (если люди были достаточно богаты) to pay the farmer's price (чтобы заплатить цену фермера = назначенную фермером).
